UK heat wave leads movie theaters to offer free tickets to redheads

One movie theater company offers to help people who are more vulnerable to heat waves in the U.K.

Showcase Cinemas U.K. will offer free movie tickets to people with red hair Monday and Tuesday this week.

Last week, the theater chain announced on social media that it was running a promotion called “SPF (Sun Protecting Flicks for Redheads).”

 

The promotion website states that redheads are more susceptible than others to the sun’s UV0_ rays. Therefore, they will receive shelter from the sun in our fully air-conditioned cinema screens. This will allow them to catch the latest blockbusters at no cost.

According to the terms and condition, this promotion is only available in-person for screenings Monday, July 18th, and Tuesday, July 19th. Red haired people will receive one free ticket per transaction, and one daily.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people with red hair or blond hair are more at risk for developing skin cancer.

The CDC website states that other genetic factors can increase the risk of skin carcinoma. These include skin that is sensitive to sunlight, freckles, skin that burns easily, skin with lighter skin colors, and certain moles.

According to the CDC, people with red hair are more likely to develop skin cancer. Other genetic factors can also increase skin cancer risk, including blue eyes or light skin. (iStock)
