TV ratings: ‘The Five,’ ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ help Fox News lead cable for 28th straight week

Channel was the most popular basic cable from July 11-17 concluding with the biggest average audience of the 28th week in a row.

The jinxing of News had an average of 1.4 million viewers last week, whereas there was no other basic cable channel that reached the milestone of one million viewers. Fox News also came out in the top spot during peak hours between 8 and 11 p.m. and averaged 2.2 million viewers as opposed to 1.3 million for MSNBC. The week was the 774th consecutive week in which Fox News outdrew CNN and MSNBC in both primetime and total viewers.

Fox News’ success continued within the highly-coveted advertising audience of adults aged 25-54 and averaged 202,000 total demo viewers, and 311,000 in primetime to be the top basic cable in both categories.

While MSNBC came in second place among all viewers, however, the liberal network was still having difficulty finding an audience in the primary demographic. MSNBC averaged just 132,000 primetime viewers between the ages of 25 and 54 and was a distant second in the middle of 23 other cable networks such as Adult Swim, MTV, Comedy Central, and FXX.

Fox News aired 72 of the top 100 cable news broadcasts this week.

“The Five” was the most watched cable news show with an average of 3.1 million viewers. “Tucker Carlson Tonight” was atop the list, with an average of 493,000 viewers in the critical segment. Both shows outdrew the highly-hyped ABC’s “The Bachelorette” among total viewers.

“Gutfeld!” was averaging 1.9 million viewers, and 313,000 within the demo, beating ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in both metrics.

“Outnumbered,” “The Faulkner Focus” and “America’s Newsroom” all had solid weeks, edging out ABC’s “GMA3,” CBS’ “The Talk” and NBC’s “Today with Hoda and Jenna” as the most watched show as a result.

“FOX & Friends” averaged 1.3 million viewers, which is more than quadrupling the audience of CNN’s long-running breakfast show “New Day,” which drew only 363,000 viewers per day. “FOX & Friends” has become the top of the morning news on cable for 69 consecutive weeks.

“Unfiltered with Dan Bongino” averaged 1.4 million viewers, finishing with the highest-rated show of the weekend on cable news “Life, Liberty & Levin” averaged 1.7 million viewers to take the Sunday. Fox News crushed CNN and MSNBC viewership throughout the weekend.

Fox News recently finished the second quarter of 2022 as the cable’s most-watched network concerning total viewers as well as primetime viewers.
