Marking Multiple Locations on Google Maps: A Guide
Let’s see how to mark Multiple Locations on Google Maps;
If you have ever wanted to see where all your customers live or if you want to find out how many locations are near your home, this tip is for you! You can use Google Maps API to plot many locations on a map. This article will explain how we did it and provide step-by-step instructions on how to do it yourself.
-
Start with a static map image

The first thing you’ll need is a static map image. You can create one using any image editing software, but if you don’t have access to one, there are plenty of free tools out there that will allow you to do so without much trouble. I recommend using Gimp (free) or Photoshop (not free).
Once your static map is ready, import it into Google My Maps by clicking “Add” in the left sidebar and selecting “Image.” Once your image is uploaded from Dropbox or Google Drive onto My Maps‘ “Layers” page, click on its thumbnail to open up its properties window where we’ll be able to add our location data later on!
-
Save your list of locations

Once you have your list of locations and the coordinates for each, you’ll want to save them in a spreadsheet. This can be done by creating column headers, like “Location” and “Coordinates,” then using the function =importdata(location) with each location as an argument.
- To import data from Google Maps:
- Click on ‘Your Places‘ in the bottom right corner of your screen (or type ‘your places’ into Google Maps search bar).
- Select ‘Maps’ from this menu and choose ‘Saved.’
- Click on ‘Import map data’ at bottom left of screen under Import/Export options or use Ctrl+I shortcut key combination on Windows computers; Ctrl+I works on Macs too!
-
Make a copy of your spreadsheet

In Google Sheets, go to File > Make a Copy. In Excel, click on File > Save As, then choose CSV (Comma Separated Values) as the file type and give it a name that makes sense to you (you’ll need this later). You can also make copies of your spreadsheet in other programs if they support CSV files–just be sure to save them as CSV!
-
Geocode your list of locations
In order to plot multiple locations on Google Maps, you’ll need to convert your list of addresses into latitude and longitude coordinates. You can do this with the Google Geocoding API, which can be used to convert an address into geographic coordinates (i.e., lat/lng).
The API returns a JSON object containing the coordinates in degrees, minutes, seconds format (DDD°MMSS). For example:
{ “results”: [{
“address”: “100 Grand Ave”,
…and so on
-
Clean up your results
Once you have your results, it’s a good idea to clean them up. Google Maps will often return duplicate locations, which can be removed by selecting all of the results and clicking “Remove duplicates”. You also want to make sure that each location is in the same country as your search query (the United States), state (California), city (Berkeley) and street address (100 Shattuck Ave).

-
Copy and paste your cleaned-up location data from Excel/Calc into Google My Maps

Now that you have your cleaned-up location data in Excel or Calc, it’s time to plot the points on a map.

Google My Maps lets you create, edit and share custom maps based on your own data. You can use the tool to create any kind of map you need, including those that are personal, professional or just for fun!
To do this, we’ll be using Google’s API (Application Programming Interface) to get the job done. You can use Google’s API to plot locations on a map
If you want to plot multiple locations on a map, there are several ways to do so. The first is using Google’s API to create an interactive, custom map for your website or app. This can be done through either Google My Maps or Google Earth both are free tools that allow users to upload their own data and create custom visualizations with it.

Google My Maps allows users with limited experience in web development who simply want a simple way of sharing their maps online with others who may not have access to other resources like coding knowledge or design programs like Photoshop (or even GIMP). Users can add points of interest (POIs) directly onto the map by clicking on its location on earth; they also have the option of importing POIs from other websites such as OpenStreetMap (OSM), which provides free geospatial data under Creative Commons licenses
Conclusion
I hope that this blog post has given you some ideas on how to create a map of your own. The process can be a little tricky at first, but with patience and perseverance, you’ll be able to plot as many locations as you want!
